Is Work Getting To Your Eyes? 3 Ways To Give Them A Rest

If you spend a lot of time in front of a computer, your eyes might start feeling the strain by the end of the day. Unfortunately, eye strain can lead to vision problems if not taken care of properly. If you notice changes in your vision, you should see your optometrist for a vision exam. In addition, there are some simple exercises you can be doing to help relieve the strain you experience during the day.

Give Them a Rest

When your eyes start getting tired, you may notice that it becomes more difficult to focus on small details. You may also notice that you experience more headaches throughout the day. The exercise described here will help give your eyes a refreshing rest.

Put your hands over your eyes, with the palms of your hands resting on your face and your fingers placed on your forehead. Close your eyes for about 15 seconds and then slowly open them. Repeat the exercise 3 times.

Blink Blink

Did you know that when you concentrate, you don't blink as often as you should. Unfortunately, your eyes need to blink in order to maintain the proper amount of moisture. Try this exercise to rest your eyes and give them the moisture they need.  Close your eyes and leave them closed for about 10 seconds. Now blink your eyes several times. Repeat the exercise five times. To keep your eyes from drying out, repeat the exercise several times a day.

Go for the Figure Eight

If your job requires you to look at the computer screen all day, your eyes are going to get tired of looking at the same thing. Give your eyes something else to focus on and exercise those eye muscles by changing the movement.

Stare straight ahead. Now, beginning to the right, make the figure eight with your eyes. Continue moving your eyes in the figure eight for about 20 seconds. Now, switch and make the figure eight to the left. Repeat the figure for another 20 seconds. You can repeat this exercise whenever you feel your muscles getting fatigued.

It can be difficult to work when your eyes are getting tired. Not only that but looking at a computer screen all day can lead to vision problems. Give your eyes a much needed break during the day by using these simple vision exercises. If you notice changes in your vision, be sure to consult with your optometrist, one like Atlantic Eye Consultant PC - Delianides Aris P MD, as soon as possible.
