3 Signs Of Colon Cancer You Should Be Aware Of

Colon cancer is a type of cancer that can go unnoticed and undetected until it's too late. It can spread throughout the body and can eventually kill you if you wait too long for a diagnosis and for treatment. One of the reasons why it goes undetected is because there are those that do not want to be screened for colon cancer with a colonoscopy. This is something everyone should have done when they are over the age of 50. Those who have a family history of colon cancer should have a colonoscopy screening performed when younger. Read on for some signs of colon cancer that you should be aware of.

1. Excessive Gas

If you have excessive gas, more so than usual, it could be a sign of colon cancer. Everyone has gas at one time or another, but when it is causing you pain in your abdomen and leaving you with constant, excessive gas, you may need to have this checked out. Gas can leave you bloated and in a lot of severe pain. If using a gas-reducing medication doesn't help with the gas you are producing, and changing your diet doesn't improve the gas pain in your stomach, you need to have this checked out.

2. Blood In Your Stool

If you notice that your stool has darkened in color and there is blood on your toilet paper when wiping, it may be a sign of blood in your stool and you should keep a close eye on this. If you have blood in your stool, it may be hemorrhoids that have broken, or it could be colon cancer. Either way, you need to have this checked out. Blood in the stools is a serious issue and you need to get to the bottom of it.

3. Narrow Stool

Your stool can change with what you eat, but if your stool is narrow and you don't have a full solid stool any longer, it may be the sign of a tumor or growth in the colon. If you have narrow stools, you need to have this checked out.

These are just a few of the signs of colon cancer you should be aware of. If you have these or have noticed other signs of colon cancer, you should have a colonoscopy screening done to ensure you do not have this type of cancer. Stay on top of your symptoms and get checked by your physician.
